Metaphor or Simile
Provide two descriptive sentences using metaphor or simile (that you will use in your narrative essay). We will discuss the effectiveness of each one next Wednesday.
A place for English 12 students from the Pearson Adult Learning Centre in New Westminster, BC, Canada to read work in progress, critique, and ask or answer questions (of other students and of the teacher).

Metaphor(personification): the sunset casting a net of orange over the rolling hills. (the sunset is personified and the "net of orange" it casts tries to describe the late afternoon light)

Only a few seconds later, I became aware, but I still sat on the ground because my body was like a pile of soft cotton.

Metaphor:She is a bird, swinging around the ice field with unmatchable speed.
Bathed in the warm spring sunshine, the Air China plane made a perfect landing at the YVR Airport.

There was water everywhere, at the far north only a few rooftops of two storey buildings were visible like faraway lighthouses in the ocean. (Simile: To describe the widespread extent of water)
Soon, we were walking towards this lonely mansion standing high like a triumph commander in the war field. (Metaphor: To describe the proud survivor after destruction all around)
Metaphor: He showed me the contract sheet named “Residential Natural Gas Protection Plan.
(name of contract express an image that this contract is protecting the gas price for resident.)
On the third day, the Sun peaked out his head from behind the grey cloud and watched me as I was on my way out of the house.

Few days later, I received phone call from Henry. “My Dr. said I have cancer and it’s vicious.” He said it with a cold, sharp tone as if he were talking about his friend’s business and then, the silence for few seconds.
