Appreciating a Line, an Idea, an Image

From today's notes, identify a line or an idea or an image that sticks with you. No need to refer to the poet by name, but please do say why (at least as much as you know) that it has reached you as a reader. Write about at least two (and as many as four).

Here a few favourites:

"spin on tiptoes" because it combines motion with assonance and brings to my mind a ballerina.

"to shred a strange mountain" because it uses a unique verb from the world of skiers.

"catch a cold from a friend" because it's funny and true and because it combines two alliterations without being too "sing songy."

"faint facial wrinkles" because of the line's honesty and it has a nice bit of alliteration, too.

"catch snowflakes with your tongue" because I love doing that, too and it fits with the idea that only by being alive can you have so much fun!

Some of my favourites:

“to be a bird
or free from the cage” because its a clever metaphor that creates an image, and its easy to relate too.

“to be burnt by the sun
catch snow flakes with your tongue” because I love the rhyme, and I too have been burnt by the sun and caught snow flakes with my tongue.

“to find your way through a corn mass” because life can often feel this way (making decisions blindly,) and it creates an image.

“that this life
is more that selfish pursuits” because its true. I think in today’s day and age many people have lost sight of this, its comforting to know not all have.

-Most Memorable verses:

“Believe in the impossible,
and live each day to its fullest potential” because it’s true and I think most of us believe in the impossible, or why, else do we live?

“Misplace your light in the dark;
and to pursue dreams on the moon with blind eyes” it’s very nice metaphor to describe pursue dreams with blind eyes.

“Catch snowflakes with your tongue” I still do that and it’s fun to catch snowflakes to see if the snowflakes are in my tongue. It’s a fun game to do it while snowing.

My favourites:

“plunge your hands into pockets” because the true-to-life expression vividly shows a sudden and strong desire to keep warm.

“dawdle on my facebook and/or twitter” because two popular Internet social network terms are endowed with a freshly literary life.

“to share my stories, from a life full of glories” owing to the terrific use of a rhyme.

“delve into bliss” because the exact wording also attracts me to be totally immersed into happiness!

my favourites:

I like the contrast between analog and distal clock “dismiss morning alarm clocks,/ watch sand go through an hourglass.” It is like a Doppler signal and only motion mode or simply old and new.

“an embrace held/ before the train went away” lingers on my mind because of its meaning- time couldn`t wait you forever.

It shows a good relationship in a family structure “An extraordinary parent/ . . . a wonderful childhood.” I wish I could be an extraordinary parent to my children as if my own parents did for me.

"making mistakes but not forget to correct them" because it's true and we learn from our mistakes by correcting and avoiding it next time.

"warm you hands by the fire" because it gives me a feeling of warmth (sense of touch).

"to get intoxicated in web" because some people are really addicted in using web

“to acknowledge the knowledge” because it is a combination of assonance and consonance and I can feel this person’s respect for knowledge.

“to see sadness from each other’s eyes” because even though this phrase talks about sadness, I think It implies family’s kindness heals sadness eventually.

"Quotes that strikes me"

“To keep on discovering something extraordinary”, to learn something new keeps a person grow stronger and wiser. Learning can be a weapon in every struggle in your life. They can take all your wealth but the intellect that you nourished will not fade.

“To follow a spark in the dark night with your naked eyes”, in every struggles in our life we always have the conscience to guide us for a better path. You can disregard your own moral conscience or choose your own way as you wish but you are not guaranteed for a good outcome.

“Follow your instincts where they lay within your mind”. Instinct is a gift from god, it’s an involuntary human defense mechanism to save you from a sudden or crucial situations.

Impressive lines:

I like the image of “to be a bird or free from the cage” because the bird reminds me of carefree flying and freedom.

I like the idea of “to take risk against everything that is planned”. It sounds like a declaration from the heart of the young people who prefer ventures and differences.

I am horrified by “the last breath of a dying life” since it brought me into a quite uncomfortable atmosphere and my breath was held at the line. But it is a good combination of sense, sight and movement.

lines I appreciated!

"To be frozen stiff by someones else's fear"--I feel/felt this way esp. when hearing someone else's pain.

"An unexpected picture to remmeber for a while"- how often do we look at old pictures and think to ourselves wow! "what great memories that have been created over the years".

"And if only once to have a chance to go back, and fix all the mistakes"--first thing that came to mind when i read this was the song (if i can turn back time by Cher). I'm sure if any of us or i can go back I'd fix somethings; a funny thing that came to mind was of how a clock can switch back or forth but us humans don't have the ability/power to do so.

"To be reminded again that life is more than selfish pursuits"-- some people are often to worried about themselves or rather being too concerned and not caring for no on else (reminds of my brother)

"To see sadness from each others eyes"--I thought that was deep! I've tried to hold my tears back and i had failed doing so; I'm a sensitive, compassionate person who cares. It is hard looking someone in the eye because when there sad you just want to cry with them.

I have to admit that everyone did a great job with writing this poems, so it is hard to choose my favorite lines, but here they are:

“to remember a hug from someone that you love” - it sounds very cute, and it reminds me of my boyfriend.

“to be a bird,
or fly on its wings” – I wrote this line exactly the same in my poem, but after checking the blog I saw this and changed mine, so that is why I remembered it.

“to tell someone not to worry while grieving yourself” - I like this one because that’s what I always do.

“live each day to it’s fullest potential” – that’s what we are supposed to do in our lives at least that’s what I think. Also I like how it rhymes with the previous line “impossible and potential”

Some of my favorites:

“to smell smoke in ruins, clutch your rage on the ice, rise on stars;” because just these three lines run the gamut of emotional sensations, from destruction to repression to elation. Nice work.

“and to follow a spark in the dark night with your naked eyes;” because I associated this line with taking a risk and following your intuition through tough times. very uplifting.

“to download everything on my USB illegally,” I hope this won’t get Ester in trouble with copyright authorities.

“to seek delightful dreams in the darkness.” What can I say? Just a beautiful line and the rest of her poem was also.

“shiver on streets”
I imagine myself the other day, shivering on the streets without a jacket.

“to wonder about the future”
I am critical at planning for the future, so this one got me

“to take risk against everything that is planned”

Naked soul; Naked truth; Naked eyes, every words that comes with the word naked sounds sexy.

“misplace your drink in a crowded room” because it evokes pleasant memories from parties where I was too busy catching up with friends that looking after my glass lost it’s importance

"a wonderful childhood with so many chances." because it puts an image in my head of my favorite toy and playing with my best friend back home.

"to become frozen stiff by someone else's fear." because I have felt like that before where I was so scared for someone else that i literally felt stiff by their fear.

"to be surrounded by family, relieve your stress through fun." because that's exactly what I do to relieve stress. My family is who I turn to for a laugh.

“catch snowflakes with your tongue” because it shows a brand-new way to feel snowflakes and puts me into that situation.
“dawdle on my facebook and/or twitter” because it reminds me of the fact that the internet, especially facebook plays a more and more important rule in our life. I’m not sure if it deserves such a huge proportion, and I truly feel concerned about its potential.
“to squeeze inside memories” because it makes memory, a very abstract existence, touchable. It also describes that some memories are hidden profoundly in our mind and reveals the way to dig them up.
“to be a Narwhal, swimming in the Arctic sea” because it has two significant meanings. The Arctic sea must be extremely cold, telling us that life is hard. On the other hand, if we try to become as strong as a narwhal, we will overcome difficulties and make our life magnificent.
