Something New

Looking back at the past four months in my English 12 class, every lesson was a new challenge to me. I was accustomed to Brad’s (my teacher) unique teaching styles like “group work” and“blog homework”because this term was the second time with him; however, his materials such as short stories, movies and lectures were totally different in content from what I had learned during the English 11 class.Since topics that we had to write or discuss in each class were varied, I had a novel feeling every class. Even though writing poems, such as “Here I Am” and “A Note,” was repeated, it was also fresh to me because my situation and goals in my life had changed. Unlike other teachers, Brad’s special teaching method displays his passion for the class. It is astonishing and innovative that he shows us a good sample of our homework or class writing to guide students. The teacher’s writing model is effective and helpful to students. Through a group discussion, presentation and blog during this term, I could get lots of new information and knowledge from other classmates with various ideas and thoughts. The English 12 class helped me not only to improve English but also to widen my intellectual horizon.

Something Memorable

There are so many memorable things during the English 12 class that I can’t state all of them here. First of all, my feeling on the first day of English 12 is still vivid in my mind. I wasn’t comfortable and couldn’t enjoy the first class because I was nervous. However, I adapted and melted into this environment naturally from the second day. During this term, one of my most humble moments was when,in the group discussion of our writing, I only got the benefits from my group members and wasn’t able to give any help to them. At that time, we were supposed to write our reactions about the story individually; however,I wrote general ideas instead of my reaction because I lost my focus about the question. The film, “Temple Grandin,” a real story about a person with high-functioning autism, is the most impressive movie. The words, “[autistic people] are different but not less,” still echo in my heart. Another unforgettable thing is my narrative essay that unexpectedly received a favorable evaluation from Brad. English 12 was a meaningful and significant class in my life. This class was sometimes hard for me, but, because of that, I also gained a lot. Therefore, this term will remain deeply in my mind as a precious memory. -211 words -

Something New

If I look back what was happened in English 12 class, I found that every lesson was very exciting and challenging at the same time. I wasn’t familiar with Brad’s unique teaching styles like “group work” and “blog homework,” this term was my first time with him; however, his materials such as short stories, movies, modern poetry and articles were completely new to me. I used to write love poems in my mother tongue not in English, when I was asked to write one in English like “Here I Am or the Note” I didn’t know what to say but by the end I did it anyways. Not like other teachers, Brad has an extraordinary philosophy to demonstrate his excitement for teaching. It is amazing and original that he shows us a good sample of our homework or class writing to guide us. Throughout our group discussions, presentations and blog homework during this term, I could get a lot of new information and knowledge from other classmates with different ideas and thoughts. He opens our mind and forces us to work hard. English 12 helped me not only to improve English but to extend my intellectual possibility. 197 words

Something Memorable

There are a lot of memorable things in English 12 class. First, the feeling that I got on the first day in class still is alive today in my heart. I was so curious and very nervous to know what the class looked like but I adapted myself and felt comfortable by the end. I have come to love writing paragraphs a lot because I do it all the time in this class. I will never forget the time I gave my presentation in class. I was so nervous even thinking that I was not going to make it. My presentation was about “Here I Am,” and it was very short. The other thing I enjoyed most was the group discussion. It gave me a new idea and a new way of thinking. My favorite movie moment was when we were watching “City Light” It was a black and white silent movie but very funny to watch and very interesting. I learned that silent film could be entertaining the same way non-silent movie are. It opened my eyes. This class was very meaningful and significant to me, it wasn’t an easy one to me, but I also gained a lot. This term will remain in my heart and in my memory. 211 words

Something New

The English 12 class is a new journey to challenge myself, and it provided me with some fresh perspectives to view the charms of English world. We had a painting picture with words assignment that writes a narrative essay in this term, and this was tough for me. I had to collect those fragments of life from my dusty memories and then organized them into the context of a story. This is a thousand words writing that I first time tried to apply the literature elements such as plot, setting, characterization in my own work. I have really been proud to complete the heart clutching story in order to commemorate the vanishing era and my best friend. Another highlight in the new class is the studies of visual literacy. The numerous theatrical terms and film making techniques were presented in class. We watched the various scenes of a few films such as action, comedy, and the silent and I was surprised with the unlimited expressivity of camera. Indeed, I was quite a stranger to the domain of making film, but I got enlightened through this unit. I have a new angle that pays attention to the visual symbols instead of words while I appreciate a film.

Something Memorable

Reading our blog works of either Brad or classmates is most memorable thing for me during the English 12 class. These writings are original, and they reflected the varied experiences and viewpoints that based on the multicultural society and different ages. Because of first edition, they are living, and because of the familiar authors, they are not illusive. I enjoy the real learning place even if it seems to be slightly crude. Indeed, the blog has taught me how to see the world pluralistically, and I believe it promoted the understanding among the classmates. Poetry is a luxury in the modern society, especially, in the virtual worlds that confront us each day, but in English 12 class, I had a chance to compose my own poem to make an insight into my soul; this is a valuable memory. Another unforgettable thing was that Brad presented the silent black and white film, “City Lights,” in the class. The comedy master, Charles Chaplin, with his talented performances and classical artistic skills completely conquered me again. I seemed to go back my childhood moments, and I even thought about whether modern technology brings the progress to human civilisation. Anyway, the combination of classic to modern and the convergence of reality to network, this is Brad’s English 12 class.

Something New

Thinking of English 12 is like English 11 is a horrible idea, and that thought gives me a bad score last term. Indeed, Brad’s unique teaching style wasn’t different as well as posting our homework on the blog; even, the movie (Temple Grandin), two poem presentations, and one short story – “Say Yes” were the same as last term in English 12, the challenges were the same like first time to do them. Using the same material doesn’t mean you are lucky because Brad would give a different requirement. For me, who took English 12 twice, still learned lots of new things from Brad, I still squeezed my brain when I was doing the assignments. I would say it’s harder to make the poems if you are with Brad two or more semesters. Every term with Brad every new “Here I Am” and “A Note” need to create, but I was enjoyed since they are interesting assignments. In this term, none of my old classmates hold back like me, so the students are new for me, the circumstance is not the same. I’m glad to be in English 12 again; what I have learned in this class cannot be compared with previous term.

Something Memorable

Although I’m with Brad three terms, there always have new things to surprise me, and they are memorable. In this semester, group discussions are the irreplaceable memories for me. I still remember the day when we were doing poem defense and choosing one poem from our group. Everyone brought a lovely poem that made us hard to decide since they were from different topic. My poem stands out in the end with a democratic way – voting. During this term, there’s another group discussion that stands out in my mind. We were assigned to do individual paragraph writing, but I couldn’t think of anything to write. Although it wasn’t required to handed-in, the group work still made me felt ashamed since I can’t give any ideas to my group. Poem presentations would always be the most memorable memory in every term. The processes of every time are different as well as the poem because the feeling won’t be the same when the time pass by. From every class, I enjoy the most when we are doing poem presentation. I love to hear how and why the students make the poem. It helped me known my classmates better. Every terms taking with Brad make a different memorable memory, and this term is the third.

Something New

When Brad first time announced that we had to write a 750 to 1000 words narrative essay, I thought it was “mission impossible.” First, I always think it’s hard to describe a person, especially Brad said we had to use concrete words instead of adjectives. Second, the length would be a problem for me. Later, I found that choosing a right character was very important, because it would make the writing much easier. During my process, I felt it was not only an assignment, but also a reflection of my feeling towards my younger brother. In addition, Brad gave us the chance to get feedback from our classmates before handing in the homework, so we could revise our draft. It is good to know from a reader’s view what kind of details should be added to the writing to avoid confusion, and I got some valuable points from Stuart. To my surprise, this original “painful” assignment turned out to be an enjoyable experience and I hardly believe that I made it. ---171 words

Something Memorable

Personally, I think the most memorable part of this semester is the silent movie, “City Lights.” We had the first glance when Brad played the beginning of it in previous class, and I felt bored. Maybe because there are no dialogues and it is a black and white film. However, the second time Brad let us watch the whole film; I was absolutely amazed at Charlie Chaplin’s talent. The film contains lots of humour, yet it has deep meaning as well. It reminds the audience how wrong we are to judge a person only by his appearance because it’s easy to see something with our eyes rather than to “see” with our mind; eventually, the flower girl finds the truth by touching the tramp, not by her sight. My favourite moment of the film is the ending and the unforgettable expressions on both faces, even though we don’t know what will happen next. I also learned that a silent movie could be so successful. ---164 words

Something Memorable
Writing is a tough task for me all along. I never thought I could write a “long” story before, but now I did. I never thought that I could write a poem, now I can. That’s a memorable milestone. Thanks for Brad, my good teacher, coach and guide. Brad teaches with skill. English 12 is lively in class: discussing warmly, presenting and viewing film. The theory of literacy is found everywhere too. He tells every element necessary we need to write a good essay. He points out every step that we need to follow, and shows us the wonderful models. The “opening” of “My Uncle Gav” is one of them. I can see the “fading light”, feel the “mushy” snow, and hear the “panted” skier. Following the instruction of “How to Write with Style”, I imitate and try to create the “seductive image” in my paragraphs. Following Brad’s model, I write every event to be a paragraph as the “bricks”. Then I construct them to be a building according to my “theme” carefully. It makes the tough assignment easier, like a toy building. Under the guidance of Brad, I’ve climbed to a memorable height. Looking back my footprints on the trail, I feel full of confidence. Looking forward at another height, I’ll say: “Yes, I can.”

Something New
Every time I walk in the classroom of English 12, I feel its fresh, lively atmosphere. Different from the stereotyped foreign language teaching in China, there are group works, more interactions. Brad uses new materials, new methods and new techniques in his class. He rejects the text from the classical textbook. Instead, he selects the materials from newspapers, websites and other modern resources. Their themes and contents are new and attractive. They’re active English, very helpful. Blog is a wonderful medium. We use it to interact with our teacher and know other students’ thoughts. Brad also introduces projector and film for help. The RSA and Ted Talks are very attractive, both the topics and ideas. They are effective to improve our listening and comprehension. Viewing films ,“Temple Grandin” and “City Lights”, in class is more exciting - it is like to enjoy a feast. In a relax way, we learnt lots of knowledge about film skills. Meanwhile, our connoisseurship had been enhanced before we knew it. The new teaching method makes a difference and wins praise from all of students. Brad is a good composer and band director. The melody is sometimes warm, sometimes easy-going; sometimes allegro, sometimes slow. Following its rhythm, step by step, we’re achieving the new results.

Looking back, I can now smile. At the beginning of this term, first day of class to be exact, I was a bit anxious to attend the class. I’d never had Brad before as my teacher; therefore, I didn’t know what to expect. Even though Louise (my Communication 12 teacher) told me not to worry, I was still edgy. After getting to know Brad and his method of teachings, I felt more assured. “Composing Poems” and reading “Poetry” was quite a challenged, but it had to be done. Also, “homework blogging” was entirely new to me, and as a result and, I felt uncomfortable. In the beginning, I was hesitant to “ blog my homework,” because I
didn’t feel comfortable being critique, nor my errors to be seen by my fellow students; however, it all ended well. In addition, writing a narrative essay with almost a thousand words was an amazing accomplishment for me. And it’s all “new.” Overall, English 12 will always be an important part of my life. One that I will never forget.

Something Memorable

I have several “Memorable Moments that happened in my English 12 Class. But one that stood out was about my assignment, “Something New Something Memorable,” (how ironic). Since, it was my first time to do “blogging” I was unfamiliar with the rule. I blog my homework first before Brad, in which I was not supposed to, and it was too late before I realized it. Furthermore, our group discussion was also “memorable,” because, not only that I was able to learn and appreciate other people’s opinions, approach and feelings towards problem solving, but also I was able to know them deeper on a personal level. Ismael’s pleading for “PEACE” poem, “A Note” caught my undivided attention. My heart goes out to those who are affected with these tragic and senseless killings. All in all, my extraordinary moment is English 12 itself and having Brad as my teacher. I will always remember this class because through this I will be able to explore and discover new things in life.

Something New

This class was a great chance for me to obtain many new and valuable experiences. Our knowing teacher, Brad, through his unique and attractive methods not only taught us many beneficial techniques about English language, but also helped us to improve our vision and look at the world differently. One of his most effective styles that I had never seen before was his accompanying with us in doing the assignments and class works. Seeing his samples on blog and hearing the sound of his typing while we were writing in class were really encouraging for me. When Brad asked us to write “A Note”, I got anxious because I never thought that I be able to write a poem in English; but, seeing his inspiring poem on the blog really affected me. I found he compose a new poem for each semester, it showed his particular enthusiasm and consideration that was really adorable and motivational, so that I could express my real thoughts and feelings through my own poem—the thing I had never experienced before even in my first language. I really appreciate Brad because of being such a patient, supportive, and creative teacher that encouraged me to learn many worthy subjects. – 203 words

Something Memorable

It’s hard to pick something memorable from a class full of vividness and passion which made me involve with a variety of amazing and valuable subjects. Reading the meaningful fictions like “Literally” and “The Woman of The House” was really instructive and unforgettable for me. I really enjoyed analyzing the elements of these stories, contemplating about the characters’ behaviours, discussing about the importance of “circumstance” in humans lives, and finally, Brad’s significant comments which always helped me to better understand. I also will never forget the sensational movies that I watched during the class, weather the stirring scenes of “Temple Gradin” which made my eyes tearful or seeing Charlie Chaplin’s genius in “City Lights” that I couldn’t resist laughing loudly. Choosing a persuasive RSA animates was another memorable assignment which caused me to contemplate about the profound concepts such as “empathy.” I am really glad because of having the chance to attend Brad’s English 12 class. Surely, I will never forget this great experience and I am going to miss this wonderful class with its sweet moments. - 177 words

It is creative when you can make ordinary things become interesting. Brad is this kind of teacher. When attending his class, you will never feel bored. Although I was in his class for English 11 last term, his teachings are still always full of novelty. He always surprised me and teaches me how to look at things in different ways: for instance, how to persuade people by pictures effectively –RSA animates, black and white film from 80 years ago and the anatomy of a scene. When I knew we would watch “Temple Grandin” again, I felt disappointed at the beginning because I wanted something new; however, it became my favorite part of the class. . Because of the topic about “anatomy of a scene”— an amazing and interesting idea, I learned to watch a movie from different perspectives. I never knew a movie can be so full of profound meanings by using those film making techniques. Instead of focusing on the plot I learned to read the scene in a deeper way. Brad’s unique teaching style always fresh and makes me look forward to learning more by his diversified resource. (186words)

By studying with Brand, it made English learning more wonderful. Even though the challenging homework made the class intensive, I still appreciate Brad’s guidance. After taking his class, I became more confident while talking to others since he assigned us many group discussions. In addition, I am very proud of myself for finishing a one thousand words essay. This is the most impressive assignment I have completed this term. I was deeply touched when I read it to my classmate because it felt like my auntie was right here with me again. At first, I thought it was impossible for me, however I made it. I think Brad’s examples and the “writer’s workshop” help me create a vivid picture about my protagonist effectively. Another memorable time was when we watched the movie “City Lights.” I actually thought it would be something like a HBO movie; however, it turned out to be a pantomime movie. Surprisingly, even though the movie was black and white, the whole e class broke into laughter and could not stop discussing the ending. Never have I seen such was a fabulous movie. The tramp’s innocent face, ridiculous actions and amusing music impressed me a lot. It not only broke the stereotype of black and white film being boring, but it also allowed me understand the idea that classic movies are still worth watching. (227words)

Something New

Every assignment in English 12 class was a tough task for me. However, writing a narrative essay was a new experience. I wrote paragraphs and essays in English 11 class also, but they were of around 350 words. However, Writing an essay with minimum length of 750 words and required elements as specified by Brad was a challenge for me. I wrote an essay about my fast friend and completed this assignment. However, now I realize that I could do better with little bit more effort. Writing blog assignments gave me an opportunity to view the ideas of other students, and also to express my views in limited words. It helped me to improve my writing as well as typing skills. Similarly, watching a movie, "Temple Grandin" was a new experience for me. I had heard about the Autism, but was not aware about the actual facts of this problem. This movie helped me to understand the problems faced by autistic people in a better way. English 12 class has boosted my confidence level and I think, now I can upgrade my educational skills.

Movie, “City Lights" was another memorable moment. I am a keen lover of movies, but I didn't watch silent movie. I thought it would be difficult to watch a silent movie. However, this movie forced me to realize that good actors can show their acting skills through their eyes and body language, and language can’t be a barrier in viewing a good movie. On the whole, curriculum of English 12 class was so designed that Brad helped us to improve our command over English language in a interesting manner. I enjoyed the every moment in this class.

Even though this is not my first term in Brad’s class, I still enjoy exploring the adventures in the English field. Observing the setting in a scene or the movement in a movie is new to me. After Brad’s professional explanations, I start to anatomize the scenes that have dubbed into a variety of background music and have been technically filmed. My favorite short film is “Paris Je t’aime” which has shown in the class. Although it is a silent short film, but we can clearly understand the subtext of the film and laugh aloud. The camera leads audients’ eyes and feelings by zooming in and zooming out the object. Watching the analysis of the film, “In the Cut: The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan”, I am astonished that we has been cheated, and we have never noticed them. Moreover, I am glad to watch a black and white silent movie, “City Lights”, which I had never been interested before I watch it in class. I worship the great artist, Charlie Chaplin. Eighty years have passed; his films still are impressive and make us laugh out loud. Being a Brad’s student is like an explorer, I enjoy discovering something new in the journey.~220 words~

Each course in Brad's class bears something new and interesting. This term we wrote a narrative essay about a person we have met in our lives with length up to 1000 words. I never written a narrative essay before like a short story with many literature devices - a dialogue, one sentence paragraph - given strictly by the teacher. It was a harsh assignment for me where I would be specific and concrete in my creative writing. Furthermore, the group discussions were valuable. We exchanged our opinions and added to each other. This experience advanced comprehend of a new idea. According to Oliver Wendell Holmes (an American writer of the 19th century): "The great thing in this world is not so much whrer we are, but in what direction we are moving." In my opinion, Brad's technique of teaching English is on the right truck in view of the fact that something new surprise and impress us. - 155 words

During Brad's class in this term I had a chance to watch the movie "City Lights" - silent and black and white - with the famous actor Charles Chaplin. Chaplin's image is a great. His films (including "City Lights") comprise social and political themes which demonstrate many problems in our not equal society. Sometimes, the pantomime and music confer the viewers more messages, points of view than any conversations between people and special consequences of contemporary movies. Over and above that, writing a poem was memorable because I wrote about something notable for me like the others. I want to mention also the last class on Friday when we shared our memories of "something New; Something Memorable" together. The atmosphere was quite sociable and warm like with close friends that I will never forget it. If I look back on some moments of this class, it means that I take pleasure in studying English here. - 154 words

Using Blog to hand in the assignments and to learn from each other is new to me in this semester. When I am not exactly sure how to write and what I need to write, I may seek help from Brad’s piece or classmates’. Foe example, the first time I composed the poem “Here I am”, I absorbed a lot from the contribution in the Blog. Moreover, getting more feedback is anther significant factor in this class. Throughout group discussions, we not only know each other well and also get fresh ideas and novel thoughts from different group members. In addition, I think although each assignment is not long but difficult enough. I also learned that a creative thought and writing by heart are the most important because it may inspire the writer greatly and attract the reader deeply. Trying to find new thing to write will be my new goal in later writing. When I think about this topic “Something New” again, I’ve noticed that’s almost the end and felt lots of things I learned. Undoubtedly, 12s class is creative and unique that I will never forget.

I ask myself several times “what’s the most memorable to me in this semester?” To my surprise, my narrative essay “Takeuchi- A Japanese Volunteer Teacher” always jump in my mind immediately because this assignment is stressful, painful and fruitful. First of all, the process of choosing an interesting character is stressful. I thought about at least five characters until “:Takeuchi ” appeared in front of my eyes. Rather than regards being a teacher, she is an ordinary housewife. That point must be going to attract the reader (language learners)’s interests quickly. Also, effectively organizing the whole essay is painful. Although free writing gave me lots of ideas but it was hard to delete some parts. “Everything is important” is impossible. I had to delete some “vivid” parts to refine the essay and to make it compact. That’s painful. In addition, in the revising process, I had to read many times to make a little change or a delete. Brad’s full draft inspired on me because it is the first time I identified even a teacher still need much modifying and revising on his piece. All in all, just as Wislawa Szymborska says “[she] has a trash can in [her] home”, I hope I will have my own “trash can” in my writing in the future.

Something New and Something Memorable

English 12 is a mysterious class to me because Brad is a magnificent teacher. He has his own rules and own teaching style to expanse up our skills more effective. Things that I like the most in this class are homework moment and movie moment. These two things give me some thoughts and motivations to accomplish something new in my life. Especially the “One thousand words essay,” I had a stressful moment while I was putting my broken memories into limited words. Even thought it was the hardest piece of writing that Brad had assigned, I had realized a lot valuable things such as who had brighten up my darkness my life indeed. Movie is a door. “Temple Grandin” had reset my brain to accept any challenges and opportunity in life. Therefore, I never got bored when I watched this movie. A responsible teacher is not easy to meet, but I met one at the PALC and that is Brad.

Something New

When first walking into the class I felt very out of place. I joined the class late, and
didn’t know anyone. I was a visible minority in the class, as a English first language
student, which didn’t help my nervous state. I soon found that the class was friendly, and
welcoming, as we all shared a common goal. Brad is a unique teacher with a unique way
of teaching. My pervious teachers for English (in high school over ten years ago) where of
a garden variety, Brad was not! Brad’s curriculum focuses on functional principals of the
English language in both writing, reading, verbal presentation and group work. Unlike the
curriculum I was a custom to, focusing on Shakespeare sonnets, and individual writing
exercises. The blog homework assignments where new to me, not knowing what a blog
was before this class. I found the blog assignments nerve racking, to think errors in my
work would be viewed by the entire class. In some assignments my personal opinions, and
emotions shared openly online. I still am diffident to posting on the blog even though my
writing skills have vastly improved. Brad’s focus on functional usage of English has
prepared me with tools to use in post secondary, am forever grateful for that.

During the poetry unit, Brad asked the class to pick a poem from sources he had provided
on the blog. We shared our chosen poems in group, and where assigned to pick one of the
poems to recite to the class. I reviewed many poems, finding one that I could relate to in
depth. The poem was regarding a mans experience in hospital. I related strongly to the
poem having a number of hospital visits myself, due to a back injury. The poem was very
Vocal, with the poet using profanity at one point to express his frustration. The group
conscious did not to choose my poem to be recited due to the vulgar language. I however
made a point to ask Brad to share it; he agreed not knowing the content. The entire group
laughed when I handed the poem to Brad foreseeing what lies ahead. Brad read the poem
to the class, looking directly at me, in a louder than normal voice when coming to the
stanza “Meaning f**k you for being well” During the break Brad said that he had to make
a decision weather to stop reading or continue when he seen the language. He laughed;
saying “it is an adult class” Brad is a good sport, and a great teacher. Hope all the new
students enjoy the class as much as I have.

English 12 from Brad is not only English 12, it is more than that. I remembered the first day I attended his class I was quite nervous because I skipped English 11. My Aunt, Teresa, and Louise, my communication 12 teacher, used to tell me that Brad is a very good teacher. His unique teaching style is diverse. I feel like I am studying in a community or a big family in his class. In Brad’s class, every student is given a chance to talk – through discussion and presentation. I think composing poem was the newest thing (at least to me). It drove me crazily; however, when I finished it, I treated it as my baby, I appreciated my hard work. Beside blogging our homework was quite special. Through this, students can read each other’s homework to improve themselves but not plagiarizing (it is an activity for me to spend my time). Lastly, the beauty of the group discussion is students can share their processes. I love it the most because I was “awarded” to understand their cultures and behaviour. In brief, Brad is successfully open a new window for me to look at English class.

Something memorable.

In English 12, every moment is memorable; however, the first class I attended was most profound. “I am old, I have been teaching for 27 years” was one of the quotations when he did his introduction – he repeated it for a few times. When I first came to PALC, Brad was the first teacher I met. And happily, now I am one of his many students. Group discussion is a major way for him in teaching. Ironically, our first topic for discussion was “How to ruin a group discussion.” He is obviously indirectly teaching us a lesson to avoid ruining a discussion. Another memorable moment was the sharing process about the poem. I found it is very beautiful. For example, when Kelly explained why she wrote about her son. I recalled my teenage life. Also, the twins brother let me understood their problems in their country. “Something new and something memorable” was our first homework and last. We were asked to read our seniors’ comment to know him – a unique way to introduce him. And we had a different way to introduce ourselves in his class. “Here I am” was our second task – an assignment like a poem but not really a poem. I was able to learn a lot from him. Sincerely, once again, thank you Brad.

Something New
To be honest, Brad’s teaching style is very astonishing and challenging for me. One of the things that stands out for me was the group discussion; it helped me to gain more ideas as well as to participate in class. I would not have been able to learn as much as I did without it. Also “Here I Am” was unexpected because I had to present myself through a poem in front of the new classmates; usually I am not the kind of person who shares his personal life with others. But it felt great and that was definitely new for me. Furthermore using the blog was a pleasant surprise, I don't remember a class where we did our homework on the internet. Finally the best thing that took part of the class was the friendly environment, where we were able to learn and to make new friends. Even though Brad is hard grader, I don't regret having him as a teacher. I wish everyone could have the same experience as me.

Something Memorable

I have many memorable memories from Brad’s English 12 classes. One of them was films; when I watch movies, I usually watch it because of the storyline, but after Brad’s class, Wow! In the class, we started watching the movie “Batman the Dark Night” scenes after scenes; we saw how the camera was filming from different angles, the different sound effects in different part of the movie, even the lightings and that’s by far one of the coolest assignments ever. Also I can't forget about the group discussions. Personally I think it was helpful but I do think it helped a lot of the classmates as well; we talked in groups and every day we had a different classmate, and that means different ideas and thoughts. It’s funny because sometimes we go off topic when we do those group discussions, and even though we go off topic, we still talk about lots of important things like life, history, and even science. Lastly, doing those presentations in class was extremely helpful for the future and when we go off to university or even our careers. There is one thing I learned about Brad, and that’s he doesn't teach you so you can pass the English 12; he teaches you so you can succeed in college and university level, and that’s something special.

Something Memorable

English 12 is a busiest class as a bee gathering for honey, but Brad makes it fun to learn. I have noticed many interesting things that new to me such as writing poems, reading long stories, and watching firms. Those things were not my favorite things to do when I have free time. Since Brad showed us how a firm got shoot, I got excited because I have never paid so close attention the scenes - focusing, forming, zooming, lighting, and panning. Before I disliked going to class, but now if I missed one class, I am frown (missing chances to learn something new). After learning those techniques, whenever I watch a firm with my parents or my friends, I will tell them what element they had used to indicate that feeling. Watching a firm is not only pleases me, but also a worthwhile moment to live in.

Something New

Presenting is terrifying and so, on some days, is teaching. Perhaps students (as does my wife) feel that since I’ve taught now for almost 30 years, it would be easier now than when I started. But no, the first days and a new class are always a big challenge. I sweat—there is no denying it. I have great sympathy for all my students as they present to their class, but I also am proud to see how well many of you do and how well you overcome your fears. The results are deeply satisfying aren’t they? Facing the new is something that teachers do every day, no matter how experienced we are, no matter how well prepared. Keeping that in mind helps me to understand better how my students feel, for, if I am shaky some days, then so must my students. Empathy is an essential quality when teaching. Believe me, I do feel your terror in a most personal way and, even with years and years of experience, every day in a classroom is a new day, every term a new adventure.—184 words

Something Memorable

The “oh” that many of you voiced at the end of “City Lights” is a highlight for me this term. As the screen faded to black on that wonderful image of the Little Tramp’s face, his modesty and joy apparent at the same time, you were left wanting more. I had thought about showing you the film, “Election,” but changed my mind at the last minute. I’m glad I did. It was a bit of a risk deciding to show the first both silent and black and white film I had ever used in an English class (my Drama Film and Television class has seen them of course). That you loved Charlie Chaplin doesn’t surprise me; what surprises me is how much he has been forgotten in the modern world. Perhaps our class can spread the word about him just a little bit and help others to appreciate his deeply humanistic vision of our world.—155 words

Something memorable
When I remember Brad’s English 12 class, there are a lot of memorable moments that I would never forget. I can still remember how I felt when I got my first homework back with no mark. I was shocked, for I thought this class should be easy for me. It took me a few more classes to get used to Brad’s teaching style. One of the most memorable classes was the class that we watched the movie “Temple Grandin.” This movie was very inspiring, and it came in the right time for me. At that time I was kind of bored with studying, but after watching this movie I was motivated to study harder. Moreover, I would never forget the day I presented my note poem. I never thought that I would be able to write a poem, but after reading my poem to the class, I was surprized that everyone liked it. This class was full of memories that I wouldn’t forget in my life.

Something new
When I first started English 12 at Pearson, I didn’t think it would end up like this. I first started determined to take an A+. I thought this class would be like all of my other classes. But I was wrong! This class is totally different. Although I didn’t get the marks I expected, I learned a lot of new things in this class. Brad (the teacher) has a lot of interesting techniques that make the students involved in the class. The blog was one of the new things for me. It was the first class that I have to share my homework with other students. Another new thing in this class was group discussion. I could never imagine how chatting with other students about the homework would be any good, but after a few weeks I realized that I was getting good feedback, and that helped me to improve my writing. This class was full of exciting activities. I hope all the other students enjoyed the class as much as I did.

When I came to Canada I discovered something entirely new interest in my life, that is synth music also can be known as futuristic music. I used to listen to mainstream music, even though they were not bad I would get bored listening to it just a few times, but synth music really unleashes my inner self. It was evident that since I have arrived to Canada synth music has rapidly grown huge in media appearing in nearly every new song or as a soundtrack. It really amazes me of what producers have been able to produce with the use of synthesizers from wide range of genres like dubstep, drumstep, electro, glitch hop and etc.
Often I put my headphones over my ears listening to my favorite synth music while doing other things and it doesn’t bother me but works as a catalyst to keep me motivated to do the work.(151 words)

Something memorable.
Something I really do miss being away from my home country, Kyrgyzstan, is the lake called Ysyk-Kyol. I recalled the salty chill air blowing into my face and the warmth of the lake when I plunged into the waters of the coast of Vancouver. The water in the Vancouver coast caught me off guard as I had never dived into such awfully cold water. The cold pierced through my skin and into my bones; I couldn’t stay in water but to get back to land while my body trembling and teeth chattering. But as I faced the terror, it brought me light memories when I used to run and jump straight into the lake Ysyk-Kyol as I approached the coast. I even said that the lake was “cold” but now compared to an ocean, there’s night and day difference. I realized that I started truly value the lake Ysyk-Kyol and my memories of it once I became aware of the depths of the ocean.(164 words)
