My Experience with Poetry

Write a 50-word paragraph that refers to your personal experiences with poetry. The experiences do not have to be at school, although they may be if you wish. Be specific please. Bring your printed work to class along with a printed copy of your chosen poem.

To help you find a poem, here are three online sources of quality poetry. Remember that you need to defend the poem's quality in group work that day, so be sure to choose well.

Poems at Slate.com (each poem is read by the poet; a good way to decide if you like the way it sounds)

Canadian Poetry Online (from the University of Toronto library; a list of poets that links to poems from each one)

Poetry Daily Archive (alphabetical archive of poems by title; here you can look for an interesting title and see if you can find a poem you like)

Poetry, with a laser-like efficiency, penetrates more deeply into my heart than any other form of literature. I love its unique ability to make me realize that, yes, I also feel that way. Reading two or three poems a week is a balm for my soul. Without poetry, life would be barren.

I’ve pretended to dislike poetry whole my adult life. Fortunately, that’s not true. Being fond of rock music, I’ve absorbed tones of poetry in the form of songs. I agree with Brad that songs usually have weak poetry but always rhythm. A mix poetry and music in some songs ups my soul.

My first encounter to poetry was to memorize a famous poem from a Chinese poet. Despite the fact that it was mandatory to recite it in front of class, I was intrigued by how very few words can have so much meaning and how simply it implies on certain situations without actually mentioning it.

I have never been a huge fan of any poetry. Ever since elementary school my teachers would introduce us to different forms of it. If i had to choose a type to like it would be Haiku (easy and simple) or listening to it through music like sappy love songs.

My experience in poetry, is I can often get away with expressing bitter views on controversial topics or deep feelings about what matters to me. Once, I was able to express laughter and fun. Poetry can be light and descriptive. Yet, there is a way in every individual that can speak of their experience in poetry.

Poetry seems hard for me because it has different depths like the sea and sometime that depth can’t measure. In communication 12, I had a chance to write a poem, it turned out quite simple, and for the first time I realized that poetry is interesting and meaningful.

Poetry has always been the best representation of beauty and feeling in the most inspiring and inspired expression of human kind. Poetry has always been there, like a reaction to something beautiful and amazing. And every time I have encountered amazement, beauty, sincerity, truth and felt deeply moved by them, I have experienced it.

I used to dislike poetry because I wasn’t expose to learn more about it when I was in college. In Canada it’s different, my teacher made me write a poem in class, by then I realized it’s value. Poetry captivates me by the strong words used to describe the senses and imagination to express its meaning.

I love poetic rhythm and tempo even though some types of poetry are not easy to understand, such as sonnets. This term in my Writing class, I have learned how to write Sonnets and Haikus. These experiences have helped to make me understand poetry better and to enjoy reading poetry even more.

My experience to a poetry reminds me at PALC English 10 Luise's class. In a class room we memorized and recited poem" Lucy The Gray". In general I see a poem as to express a deep feeling about love or so. However, I would like to listen a poem in a music than to write or read it. Word count: 50

It was late last year when we had to create and recite a poem in English 11. I know from the beginning that poetry was never a strength of mine but, I was glad that I able to finish. In the end, every poem, whether good or bad every effort should be treated as an accomplishment.

Whenever I feel really tired of city- life, all this rush, noise, cars, buildings … . I attempt to escape and take a trip to a place with roses, butterflies, trees with delicious fruit, and water streams running through it ,simply by reading a poem by one of my favourite poets. 52 words

If literature is forest, poetry is the flower. Some flowers are shimmering and fragment; some flowers are brambly. Flower is pretty, but it is hard to reach. However, in human's heart, the more resonatory poetry is, the more famous it is, which has crossed the difference of different cultures, such as "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?"

I will always remember when I started to read what was going to become, for me,the icon of poems. The poem is called "Luceafarul,"(The Morning Star) by Mihai Eminescu, and it is considered to be one of the most important poem in Romanian literature. It was the day, when poetry got into my heart.

I always thought poetry is confusing and meaningless for somehow but if you take a deep look at a poem’s meaning, is full of truth and many massages. I still remember the first poem I had read called “Bani Adam” by Saadi’s, which I was really affected by the meaning.

I always found the experience of writing a poetry very challenging. Poetry is about connecting with inner self and projecting something profound into words. Although, I don’t make time to read poetry when I do I see the attraction to it. There are many devices used in poetry, in my experience it is very hard to distinguish on from another.

Poetry is not something everyone can get, I think somehow we all do understand and find poem in different form of ways. All human has emotion and feelings its impossible to not connect. Poetry is from centuries and this always will live on. This I experienced when I read my very first poem “The More Loving One” by W.H. Auden.
