My Experience with Poetry

Write a 50-word paragraph that refers to your personal experiences with poetry. The experiences do not have to be at school, although they may be if you wish. Be specific please. Post your work and remember to bring your printed work to class along with a printed copy of your chosen poem.

To help you find a poem, here are three online sources of quality poetry. You must find a poem from one of these three sources. Remember that you will need to defend the poem's quality in group work that day, so be sure to choose well.

Poems at Slate.com (each poem is read by the poet; a good way to decide if you like the way it sounds)

Canadian Poetry Online (from the University of Toronto library; a list of poets that links to poems from each one)

Poetry Daily Archive (alphabetical archive of poems by title; here you can look for an interesting title and see if you can find a poem you like)

Poetry, with laser-like efficiency, penetrates more deeply into my heart than any other literature. I love its unique ability to make me feel. Reading two or three poems a week is a balm for my soul. Without poetry, my life would be barren, my spirit unfed.

Poetry is the most beautiful part of literature that describes the world in its
unique way .I love how emotions are shaped into the words to describe its
meaning and to awake my deepest feelings. And the most impressive is; “Once
you get attached, there is no way back.”

Poetry, like a lightning so bright and sharp, trembles deeply in my heart and soul.

Poetry is not so bad that I am glad.

Reading poems regularly, which I ought, is a good way to purify my thought.

Without poetry, my life would become boring and I could not do anything.

Poetry often realizes us that one single word, phrase and stanza, actually has more meanings than from literature. By knowing another meaning through it, it expands our vocabularies and leads us to a whole new world of imagination. Without poetry, I feel my imagination remains limited.

Poetry is an universal language that ties the soul to my heart. Powerful and inspirational poetry draws emotions in the form of art and it gives acess to my memories and feelings. As Lenoard Cohen said, "poetry is just the evidence of life.If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash." -54 words

Poetry is like an angel whispering into our ear, it goes deep to our soul and mind. It brings memories from the past and also brings us light to the future. As Percy Shelley said “Poetry is the record of the best and happiest moments of the happiest and best minds.” - 51 Words

Back in the day, poetry was my worst nightmare; it always reminded me of memorizing long verses and sweating over unknown words. As I slowly started understanding the true meaning of poetry, it opened up a whole new world to me which had unfortunately been hidden for many years.

I have often found it tedious when I have to decipher every sentence and every word to find the true meaning behind a poem. I guess I just like poems that are simple and easy to grasp. But more importantly I enjoy writing poetry. Writing poetry allows anybody to express themselves in a creative and beautiful way. -57 words

Poetry, as a genre of literature can compress a variety of thoughts and emotions. It uses well—chose words and brief phrases, yet they are very effective. I enjoy poetry, because just like pictures, music and philosophical writings, it taught me how to enjoy nature, loneness, and life. Poetry is my favorite literary style.

Poetry, like a stream running through the valleys. It’s not as deep and wide as ocean, but its still surface reflects the real world. That is its miracle, also its mission. I can easily find the beauty of poetry everywhere, in a book, a song, even a child’s rhyme.

Poetry is a blank canvas. How the painting will be depends on your imaginations, feelings and experiences. Different readers have different understandings about the same poem, and it never ends. It’s the charm of poetry. It’s also why I like poetry.

Poetry is an amazing expression of language. It touches and penetrates everybody's inner soul. When I read a poem which I could grasp word by word gives me great feeling. I cannot express my feeling in words. It plays a catalytic role in my thinking. A good poem stimulates me from inner layer of my heart.

Poetry, a silent language art, has a dynamic effect. It leads me into an imaginary world, awakes my dormant senses, and refreshes my spirit. Though I seldom read it, it connects with me once we meet, leaving me an enduring aftertaste like fine tea. I love poetry, the beauty of literature.

Poetry is very unique and hard to comprehend, it describes how someone can feel in whole different way of understanding. Poetry is like a whole different way of describing something into much deeper detail and that's why poetry is amazing.

Poetry is the way to escape the tyranny of language.
A poet creates a framework for
A reader to read between the lines for
A word in poem worth thousand in others for
A universe within it.

Poetry, to me, is a very important and diverse form of expression. The beauty of a piece of literature having the power to open every mind to a unique interpretation is amazing. Poetry has been incredibly influential on my life in the form of music and lyrics which have greatly contributed to who I am and how I present myself to the world.
