Making a "Pitch" for Your Narrative Essay

Write a short (100 to 150 word) pitch (to attempt to promote, sell, or advance someone or something)  for your narrative essay idea. Why would we be interested in the person you chose? What makes this person interesting? What influence have they had on you that is interesting to others?

Bring your pitch to class that day and prepare to discuss the pros and cons of your idea and to improve your overall plans for your first draft.

Mike: My Camp Boss

Mike is a memorable character in my life. My narrative essay will concentrate mostly on my difficulties adjusting to a new job. When I had just turned 18 years old, I got a job with Cominco in a mineral exploration camp in Canada’s high Arctic region (then the Northwest Territories; now part of Nunavut). To say I was a bit “raw” and inexperienced is to put it mildly. During the first weeks, I got into trouble with my immediate supervisor—Don, the camp cook—and needed Mike’s help to understand my role and responsibilities. You might say that Don was not a good communicator, but he was a good cook and our relationship was important to the smooth running of the camp. My essay will relate to you my circumstances (the setting in all its uniqueness) and how it related to my getting into trouble and, in the end, my successful and incredible summer spent in northern Canada.

It is incredible how our kids influence on our life just being! To say they change our lifestyle is a charming underestimation, they change our personality. I became mother at the age of thirty four years; it is a bit late even in our modern selfish world. I got used to put my interests and my emotions on the first place, freedom and independence were the highest values in my wold. My narrative essay will devote to my kid who helped me to understand the limits of my patience and my possibilities, to explore the innermost of my heart, and to know the new meaning of the words “self-sacrifice” and “love”. It will be the psychological journey from tears and doubts, through tiredness and troubles, to the great happiness and gratuity to the little person who makes your life sensible. I would say it is just one more story with happy end.

Close to 25 years ago I attended an English course where I met a fellow. No, it didn’t end up in a relationship of any kind. That man happened to be a sociology professor and he had just published a book. After the course we met a couple a times, just for an informal coffee or walk. On my narrative essay I’ll talk about my suspicions, our acquaintance, and how it was resolved for me. In life we can be influenced negatively by people too. I clearly recall the last time we got together, recalling it my lips curl down and I am nauseated. I feel sorry for him, I really do, because he may be a famous professor but, sure enough, he does not have a clear conscience. I learned how to deal with someone who takes advantage of you and wants to smile and protect his face. Sorry, no name for this person – my mind has erased it.

In the year of 2012, there was a person whom would always remain in my mind. My teacher, Oday AliAhmad, would bring the concept of learning biology in a very active way. In this narrative essay we would encounter some techniques he had used which allowed me to love biology even more than I did. These eye-opening methods (including the story) takes place in Lebanon but its effect would be either contained by me or it would be contagious enough to spread to all those whom experience it. Also in the essay I will add some examples from that year which would help in understanding it further. Hope you enjoy the adventure.

My Dear Teacher

You cannot choose who you meet in your life, but luckily meeting this person is something, that I would not dare to erase. I am talking about Andrea, my class teacher in years 2008 to 2013. Not only was she good History (and later even Physical Education) teacher, she is a motivating person. My narrative essay will tell a story of how she brought our class closer together, her activities on class trips, discussions in her home and more. I look up to her as a person and respect her as a teacher. As we have been her first class and like her children, it was hard to say goodbye. However, she was not alone for long. Why, you will find out in my essay.

My friend Young lives a life full of kindness, faithfulness, knowledge-seeking, for the most part

having sympathy for others. She is a kind of “always optimistic and hopeful” girl who never

shows disappointment in any situation. She welcomes anyone who needs her help. I have

barely seen her deny anyone who asks for assistance. She always trusts God and seeks his will.

She looks up to God and walks with God wherever she goes. She has a thirst for knowledge and

this affects people positively. I am always inspired by her knowledge of politics and religion.

She has the power to make people feel confident and encouraged. I am lucky to have her as my

best friend.

“My incredible aunt “

Just about a year ago on November 2012, my aunt was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer. Being said she was always such a kind hearted joyful women that always cared for her family. Family was the most valued aspect in her life. My narrative essay will be focused on the small gestures she continued to show throughout her ongoing battle against cancer. It will be an absolute heart melting story that makes you think twice about your true values as a human being. It will show both a genuine and mature side to how it has truly affected me as young adult.

Jeffrey is my best friend in university. My essay will describe the friendship between us. Our friendship has existed for almost twenty years. During first four years, Jeffrey gave me help when I jumped to a new class, and Jeffrey and I had a happy time to do many interesting things in campus. After we graduated from university, Jeffrey kept contact with me and we exchanged feelings about our new lives. I particularly went to his wedding ceremony by train to bless him. When his wife had a surgery to cure her cancer, I accompanied Jeffrey and shared opinions about life, love and responsibility. Jeffrey gave me many guides when I was confused in my life. We have treated each other as the best friend since we became classmates in university, and the friendship with Jeffrey helps me to have a positive attitude toward difficulties I face in real life.

To think of writing a narrative essay, my parents are my inspiring in this story. They are my most memorable couple in my entire life .Their lives are the reality lesson for me. They are wealthy in my view (without lots of money). I would tell you how they are rich with tiny bit of money. Also, you would laugh along with my father’s humor tale, his promise to my mom and some action on his motorbike. In my mother’s role are the great mom and the patience wife. How she deals with the roller coaster family? (Life isn’t always smooth as you know it.) She does her best to keep our family happy. I would like to share what I have learned from them that it values me! My parents are my super model to continue on the daily life to keep my blissful lifestyle like them.

My grandma had a deep influence on my life. I spend almost all my summer holidays in my grandma's home before I went to college. At her house, there was a red clock in the shape of a cock, which I nicknamed "Red Cock". Every time when Red Cock crowed in the morning, I got up, and my grandma always quoted a morning motto. Every time when Red Cock crowed in the evening, I went to bed, and my grandma always quoted an evening motto. My grandma knew nothing about philosophy, but there was a lot of philosophy in her words. Her own motto was, "A healthy life is so simple that only one morning call and one evening call is enough." Both the morning call and evening call taught me how to live a balanced life. Joining me in my narrative essay, I would like to share with you the story of my grandma.

Delshad Amini
Soly, My Best Friend

It was 15 years ago. My failure at the college entrance examination disappointed me very
much, but it wasnt the worst thing. I had to go to the army for two years which was
mandatory in my country. I had only eight months to introduce myself to the military service.
In a melancholy evening I had sat on a chair in a park when he came. " Dont be sad. We can fix
it.", he said. He was Soly ( the abbreviated name of solomon). He was one of my old
classmates ( actually the smartest one) , also; he was my most intimate friend. We passed all
levels of school together, but he could pass the college entrance examination without me." I
am not going to go to the college without you! ". His words had a lot of influence on me. He
was such a stubborn person that you couldn't change his mind. My narrative essay will
describe my friend's effects on my life , and his attempting to help me for going to the
college.

It all starts with the darkest moment of my life. Facing financial and family problems. Lack of studying; school wasn't as important. I couldn't have think of any other way to remain calm but to drink alcohol. Got into the wrong group of people you could say, some were alcoholic and some were addicted to drugs.Until that one day when everything changed completely the opposite. That one day I was introduced to Mateen. A seventeen year old inspiring to many and luckily I was one of them. I thought he would be just another friend that comes and goes. I was wrong. He helped to change from the alcoholic boy I was to the man I am. Got myself a job and upgrading English.

Mr. John is  the most memorable and important character in my life. My narrative essay will mostly be about the depression I faced once in my life, and  how Mr. John could help me to get out of this problem and also how he could change my life. Mr. John was one of my counselors who was very different than others. His thoughts, his speeches and his act were totally unique and positive. He was super optimistic. Thus, I didn't like him at first time, because I had met many counselors before him, who had just bored me up by talking , so I thought Mr. John might be the same as them, but he was not. This talk of him made me smile. My essay will be related to Mr. John, my mistakes and unwanted stuff that I have done  when I was depressed and the lessons he taught me and those that I learned in my life.

My character: Myself

I always consider myself is the most important person in my life because only I can control my own life. Making good or bad decisions. Even change it completely. Maybe I just have not yet meet the person. Therefore, my narrative essay will mainly focus on myself as the narrator of the story. The essay will be about my life after I immigrate to Canada with my parents which including a part of my childhood and my whole teenage. When I was thirteen I moved to Canada with my parents. Every thing was strange to me. As a kid, I was very confused and lost for the first couple of years. Then I slowly adjust the environment and started to change myself. Through the process, I picked up a lot of things. Saw some mistakes I made. Made promises that I will never make the same mistakes again. The essay will be about the process which I spent my teenage to find myself, my weaknesses and tried to fix it . It will be a bitter but meaningful essay.;

My Grand Mother

My grandma passed away 5 years ago. Whenever I recall memories of my grandma, I've had a complex feeling about her. She was the strongest woman I had ever met in my life, but she was also the most feared person for me. She was a friend and an enemy. During Korean War, my grandma went to refuse with her three kids. It must be hard, bringing up her children on her own. However she did it. I grant that she was a good single mom, but she was the worst mother-in-low for my mother. When I was young I watched my mother’s crying so many times, because grandma spited her. While growing up, I had developed hatred for her. Strangely I felt such pity for her, even she did hurt me. I didn't cry for her death, and I don’t yet really feel that she is not exist here. Her memory is specially sticking in my mind. I’m sure that her presence made me more mature, and I will never forget her.

My character: Best friend
Raf is an inspiring young man who has motivated me at some point of my life. He has been through many tough situations and handled it like no one else could. His hard work, dedication, and commitments are starting to pay him back. He was a miserable kid in high school considering a full time job and having very little time to study. He was living a poor life. My assistance back in high school did change his life a little bit. I believed in him that one day he will grow up and be successful. His story is inspiring and shows someone’s commitment when life was tough for him.

Work for your living, live for you interest –
A pitch for my narrative essay idea

The man likes to talk. People can hear his magnetic low voice from another block. All kids in our neighborhood love to play with him. None of his tenants dare to challenge him, because nobody has ever won him in the past. His buildings are the most beautiful ones in the small uptown. He has an old dog, a school of beautiful fish, 3 turtles, 8 birds, including a one foot long big parrot follower, called “fart”.
The man does not talk his past so much. He said he left school at 15 years old. But I wonder why he can tutor people in their college essay. He gave my son a pile of postal stamps and stories from different countries for collection. He has a full shelf of record discs and more than 4 guitars, but I never see him play any of them. My kids call him Uncle Michael. He is so mystery until we received a Christmas gift pack of 6 CD…

Niko provided me with a course and goal in life. He is deserving of interest because without his influence on my life I would never have decided to take english 12 again. My narrative essay will be about his attempts, and final success, in interesting me in Japan. He was interesting to me because of the things that he knew about Japanese culture and his knowledge of anime which I also greatly enjoy. His Knowledge fostered a interest in me for all things Japanese which provided me (who had no ideas about my own future) with a goal for the first time in my life.

The story about life in the camp while making sense of life, education, people that surrounded me at the time. The amazing friend who thought me a few lessons and helped me overcome many obstacles' in my life and and see in all that misery lighter side of life too.

The person I choose for my narrative essay is a young girl named (Sarah) whom I am very proud to call my best friend, and so blessed to have in my life. There are many reasons to why I choose to write about her, but one is because everyone who meets her can not resist wanting to have her in their lives because that's how amazing she is. Sarah is what I like to call an alive person, which to me means she always laughs no matter what she's going through she is always ready to help everyone and never expects anything back she always has the answer to everyone's questions. The biggest impact she has had on me ever since I met her is she has made me feel right about just being myself and not caring what others think of me and not trying to please others and having fun in life and also trusting people and always giving your best in every situation so you don't have regrets.
