My Experience with Poetry

Write a 50-word paragraph that refers to your personal experiences with poetry. The experiences do not have to be at school, although they may be if you wish. Be specific please. Post your work and remember to bring your printed work to class along with a printed copy of your chosen poem.

To help you find a poem, here are three online sources of quality poetry. Remember that you will need to defend the poem's quality in group work that day, so be sure to choose well.

Poems at Slate.com (each poem is read by the poet; a good way to decide if you like the way it sounds)

Canadian Poetry Online (from the University of Toronto library; a list of poets that links to poems from each one)

Poetry Daily Archive (alphabetical archive of poems by title; here you can look for an interesting title and see if you can find a poem you like)

Poetry, with laser-like efficiency, penetrates more deeply into my heart than any other literature. I love its unique ability to make me feel. Reading two or three poems a week is a balm for my soul. Without poetry, my life would be barren, my spirit unfed.

I believe poetry is more than just speaking out loud with strong emotions. As a person who regularly goes to church, I participate in singing hymns of praise. Songs are poetry in motion, with rhythm and music. Poetry helps me reflect on my life. It makes me whole. 51 words

A poem possesses poetic value that satisfies my imagination. It does not need to engage my knowledge or conscience but it makes me experience the sounds, images, thoughts, and emotions. Reading a poem is like it transports me to another dimension of life, it’s like opening a whole new world. 50 words

Poetry deals with emotions just as music permeates deeply through my soul. I love its limited precise words which evoke strong feelings of sadness or happiness to everyone; however, understanding some poetry can be challenging. I admired the effects of this unique literature. Poetry is expressive, heart touching, and beautiful. (50) words

For me, poetry is a language which expresses one’s emotions and feelings. I believe poetry is a creative way to convince others with just a few words. It helps me to perceive the world according to the poet’s vision. By reading poems, I feel peaceful, stress-free and away from my worries.

Poetry, like Eminem songs, invigorates my mind and soul; hence, the reason why I listen to poetic songs when I feel lonely or dull. There is not a single day that goes by without me listening to Eminem. Without poetry, I would have ended up being antisocial.

In my experience, beautiful poetry is similar to music. It tugs at the string of my heart and deeply enriches my soul, its powers planted firmly inside of me. I like poems that are themed about life because it evokes my imagination to bring me to another world where I am at peace.-53 words

Everyday there is some type of poetry we all are exposed to. It might be a favourite song, or a writing you see in a magazine. I have done some poetry in my English 11 class. Poetry can be so much more complex than ordinary writing, creating different illusions or exposing somebody’s reality. - 53 words

I have often meant to read more poetry, to try to find an appreciation for more of it. Some I don’t understand, and some I just don’t care for, too gloomy or weighty. I like a more whimsical or lighthearted fare, something that makes me laugh, or brightens my soul.

I used to admire the flow of words enchanting like a song, making my brain to swirl with emotion at the sound of the beat. I know seldom of English literature, but I do enjoy listening to the poems which danced through my imagination, and opens the door of another world. (51 words)

Poetry is always in this way: give you a drop of dew, so you can imagine the dawn of fresh; give you a shell, so you can imagine the vast sea; give you a crescent moon, so you can imagine the silence of the night sky. Reading and appreciating of poetry, and re-creating its image through imagination and association, you would really feel the taste of poetry.

For me poetry is not only a profound way to describe feelings, circumstances or even simple objects, but it is also a very challenging discipline. As a poem reader, I found that distinguished poets activate the mind and the heart of the reader by several rules and techniques. Indeed, poetry involves feelings and ample language knowledge.

Poetry, without too many words, always be able to touch my heart and innermost being. With its conciseness, I could easily read it over and over again and let the feeling grow in me. I enjoy it by either reading out loud like singing a song, or whispering in my mind.

The inspiration of poems touched my heart about fifteen years ago, and from that time I started writing poems even though I didn't have any knowledge of literary terms, but I liked the sound of rhyme and repetition. Most of my poems I wrote in my first language, Dari Farsi, and some in English. 54 words

Poetry, hard to know it; I just explore with my heart over again. With its prudential words, it only whispers me, but it echoes throughout me. Reading poems is a time for soul-searching: it deepens my thought, and it thickens my life. It gives me a great consolation in hard times.

Poetry is the most shining peal in the human civilization, it is immortal soul carrier. Reading poetry, it will be a very wonderful work has painstakingly. Poetry has witnessed the splendor of the desert, to express the snow style. Poetry is the landscape on the paper; the landscape is poetry on the ground.

Poetry as the extremely rich and diverse field for the expression of master’s feelings causing me awed. Only life experience and fertile imagination can help to interpret multilevel poems. Rereading my favorite ones in years, I necessarily find something new that I was not able to feel and comprehend before.

Poems

In elementary school, I was forced to work with poetry many times. Though I never understood how vast the subject was until I reached high school. My favorite poetry assignment was in elementary school when we had to write ten different styles of poems, by ourselves, and hand them in as a book. I still have the book to this day.

For me, poetry is a mirror of someone’s life and thoughts, and the most beautiful poems are those written “by heart.” They describe all human concerns: love, joy, grief, sadness. They help to understand the world, other people and their feelings. Often open my eyes to the things that matter, and even the existence I’ve never perceived. -55 words

Poem Reaction

Poetry for me is like an unknown subject I had never read poems in my country, and usually I don’t understand all the deep emotions that are been writing in them. I just recently started to read poems, and found that even if I don’t understand as much I can still see the beauty in.
