Hi, I am Andrew. I feel so glad that we will be spending time together in the next several months. As an immigrant of almost three years, I currently work at a casino in Richmond. I am getting tired of dealing with the cards, chips and bizarre behaviors even though the job helps me improving my English and earning the fairly good money. It's meaningless and a totally dead-end job to me. I used to be a radiation technologist in China for seven years. Operating the giant machines (CT, MRI), working on the delicate X-ray film and reporting the problems of patients were all my responsibilities. Hopefully I could go to BCIT to continue my major and dream after finishing courses here. Also I am a kind and warm-hearted person. I am always fond of meeting friends from different countries with different background. I like playing video games and watching live sports. I am a big fan of Vancouver Canucks and Luongo is my God ! It is not always easy to write about yourself, especially when you have only twenty three years of experience and not too many accomplishments to talk about. I will try to introduce myself the best I can, so that all of You could know a bit more about me.

I grew up in a small village in the northern Poland with four younger siblings – so there was always something interesting going on and we were never bored! Perhaps this is why till today I enjoy spending time with my friends so much.

In Poland, I was studying Economics at the Technical University, but finished only three out of five years. Math was always my favorite subject at school and I want to tie my future with it.

At present, I am devoting most of my time to prepare for our baby-daughter, who is due in March. I am extremely happy and excited, for this is our first child. I am aware that it will not be very easy to be a mom and a student at the same time, but I will do my best. I simply can not wait for our little sweetie!!!

Hi, my name is Samantha. I was born and, mostly, raised in Burnaby BC. I've spent many summers in a small town called Limerick SK, where my Great-Grandfather started our family farm. I have 3 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I also have an 18 month old niece. I plan on living and working in Saskatoon Sk, and attend the University of Saskatchewan, in the next 4-5 years. I'd like to become a Landscape Architect one day. Currently I'm a student and job hunting. I enjoy sports, stunt driving, music(rock'n roll), computers, reading, and spending time with my niece. I also like learning, but not necessarily school. Building, creating, and organizing are my forte(strength). I pay close, and informed, attention to the world around me. The "issues" that affect us all. A good quote I heard recently for the economic and environmental crisis/decline we're in is "The only reason we have problems is, because we already have the solutions." I dislike people who think they know everything, and I hate people who are ignorant. (181 words)(I counted 3 times to be sure)

Doing Slowly but Surely
Hi, my name is Zara and I am a big dreamer and whenever possible I always try to follow my dreams. I am very happy because now finally I have the opportunity and facilities to pursue my dreams. Learning the English language is a big challenge for me, but I have plans to graduate from English twelve and continue my education in a post secondary education, so that I can achieve my dream of becoming a certified accountant. On the other hand, as a mother of two children, I have the responsibility of taking care of my children and help them to pursue their dreams too, which is very time consuming. However, I am very committed in achieving my goals I plan to work hard and put enough time aside to be able to devote the required amount of time for this class. Also, now that I am getting older, I have planned to change my life style and become healthier by doing more exercise and eating healthier. (172 words)

The hardest thing is to describe you life in few words and make it interesting for a reader. I am going to try this now. First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Victoria, but my friends call me Vika, Vicky, or even Tory. Thus, you have variety of names you can call me by; I am not choosy. I came from Saint Petersburg, Russia, with my husband (the perfect guy!) three years ago. The focus of my live is my family and my education, respectively. I am 24 years old and 17 of these years I’ve being studding here and there. I am very active. I like skiing, although I don’t know how to stop properly. I hope I’ll learn one day. Jim is the place I go like I work there. I use to do horse back riding back home and I miss it, for I don’t have enough time for it right now. I love camping and hiking. Besides, how can you not love outside activities living in British Columbia? I am planning to graduate from PALC this year and attend UBC to get my sociology degree. After that, I am planning to take one more year of teaching program to become an Elementary School Teacher. And maybe one day I will be teaching you kids (or grandkids).

From Sunny:

Enjoy My Life

I was a sales manager in China. I had been a saleswoman for 12 years. Our company sold hundreds kinds of medicine, so I was very busy. I came to Canada in July, 2006. Now, I’m a student. I study in PALC in order to improve my English. I plan to go to university to learn more about business in Canada. My goal is starting a business with my husband a few years later. I spend more time on my family than before. I have a ten-year-old son, and he is my pride. In 2005 and 2006, he was the champion of the 8-10 age groups in the match of Chinese composition in Vancouver. He is also studying hard in English and French. I hope I’m not only his mother, but also his friend in his life. My favorite sports are playing badminton and table-tennis. I also like traveling. I traveled to many cities in China. After I came to Canada, I went to Toronto and Calgary already. I plan to go to Ottawa and Quebec next year. I enjoy living in Vancouver. I wish my family will live happily forever.

From Cherry Pie:

Wonders of Life

When I came here in Canada on February 4, 2007, I felt very happy and astonished to its landscape and advancement. Canada is far more improved than the Philippines. I liked working and earning money. As the days passed, I realized that I'm tired of working. It was good to have money but it was hard to study while working. In the Philippines my parents did not want us to work while studying. They believed that studying requires concentration and time. But my life in Canada was not like that. My husband and I needed to work in order to support our needs. I also needed to upgrade my education before I can enter a university to take up nursing. I imagined myself being a nurse and I felt satisfied and very proud of my achievements. I am very passionate about helping others. When I become a nurse I will do everything to become one of the best nurses in the world. With the help of God's blessings and my family's inspiration I know I can do it.

She is Cool

Catalina is someone I can hardly understand. She likes everything, but she is never completely satisfied. She keeps quiet when she wants to scream. She stresses out for little things, and she seems to like it. She is willing to learn because she loves challenges. She is really simple and practical in her complicated way of life. I would say she is continually searching for new opportunities to improve. She goes to school and work, and she loves it. Everyday in her life is a new chance to build a dream and work for it. She knows what she wants, and she usually get obsess with it. Catalina thinks too much, well that is that is what some people say. She is very concern about reality, and she knows there is something she must do. Catalina has many dreams and expectations, and she is willing to reach them all. If she goes for something, she does her best to have it. She hates to surrender! I actually don’t understand her very well, but she is cool.

Hello!! Yeah this is me… my presentation was quite different, and I hope you are not confused, haha. My name is Catalina Parra. I was born in Colombia, and I consider Canada as my second home. I’m so glad to be in this class with all of you. I am hoping to go to collage very soon to reach my dreams and to approach my goals.

Margaret: Unfolded

To simply describe myself, I would call myself a nature-lover and passionate reader. I love the beauty of nature. Maybe I’m a little outdated, but instead of watching some new release, I prefer to spend some time in the arms of nature. Every season has something to offer and I’m glad that life gives me a chance to live in such beautiful place like British Columbia. Walking along a beach or wading in ocean’s water is my favourite form of relax. I’m not an eco-maniac, but ecological issues are the greatest concern to me. I would like to live in a healthy and sustainable environment that’s why I try to live in a responsible way. My second passion, except the love for nature, is reading. I was always wondering about the mysteries of our planet and the power of human mind. This curiosity has turned me into the world of books. I’m thankful to the many writers who shared their knowledge and discoveries with others. Thanks to them, I can gain some understanding (or be more puzzled), but what’s important, to be “a little wiser.”

Outspoken Dreamer

Writing about yourself is not an easy task, but I will try to do my best! I am a Mexican immigrant who lived in Seattle Washington for eight years. Subsequently, I became Mrs. Pierre, and is the reason why I am here in Surrey, British Columbia. Currently, I am working as a technical support for Xbox Live (online play), but unfortunately because of the strong Canadian dollar my company has decided to move my project to the Philippines by the first week of March of this year. Lucky of me! I still have a job, although I will have to struggle with a new training with a different project. My personal goal is to finish and graduated from PALC, so I can pursuit my dream to earn my certificate in Tourism Management. Nevertheless, I would love to learn an additional language (Italian or French). My passion is to travel; it can be any place near where I am, or any other part of the world. I am always looking forward for new adventures that can make excited my voyage. Please, if you have any suggestions “I am all ears”.

“Dilly-Dally Shilly-Shally. There’s so much time for not supposed to…”

One of my personal goals in life is to enjoy it. I have observed how the undying trend of the world is to spend your time high on emotion. Everything must be fun, sad, happy, upsetting, exciting, or if you’re a manic depressant you can enjoy all these in an exhilarating five minutes. Rather than experiencing today’s trend or admitting myself, I have decided to seek out things in the day that bring my soul a particular joy. As the tantalizing taste of gnash can only last so long on your tongue, the components of a day should only rest so long on your mind. As quoted by the Dread Pirate Roberts, “Life is pain and anyone who says otherwise is selling something.”[1] I am still quite convinced that even he sought out the treasures of his heart. As I became partial to this new routine I also became anxious of the new territory that awaited me. A new companion on my adventure told me, “Change is constant, fear its companion.” So in a concluded statement that appealed to the senses there came, “Dilly-Dally Shilly-Shally. There’s so much time for not supposed to.”

And yes, that was 200 words. =)

Moving Life
When I saw our extended class on Wednesday, it was simply exhilarant. I’ll be learning English skills from Brad just like last term and be able to have more opportunities to improve through the blogger and other group activities with so many classmates.
Ever since I immigrated to Canada, I’ve always been exploring different ways of life. Back in china, I moved from a northern city to a southern city. Moving in china was quite similar to immigrate to Canada. For example, when I moved in china, I had to learn Cantonese just like I’m learning English now. Moving to Canada, the view is certainly different, plus, the people are the biggest change. Now when you look down form some tall building, you don’t just see a mass of black hair anymore, it has gotten colorful! There are blonds, brunettes, red heads, and dark brown haired people. The variety is endless! Also, the culture and tradition is quite different too, there’s no longer a holiday for Chinese New Year, but there’s Christmas. So immigrating to Canada did have its similarities with moving just in china, but the differences are so interesting to be able to experience that.(200 words)

A Life

Health is one of the main focuses of my life. I am constantly busy and must be able to focus under pressure. To do so I need to stay healthy. Besides that, family is the most important to me. I was not brought up with good health or family values; however, reading has changed my thinking and perspective in life.
Also after reading books from Robert Kiosaki, being financially free has become an extremely important goal in my life. Financial freedom provides time which is one of the most valuable, least worked for, non tangible things in life. I’m always out there trying to help others get what they want in life and I might say that is a great feeling for me, to see other people happy in life.
I also love to travel. I have been to many places around the world and would still love to travel some more (Ah Jamaica right now sounds good). In the winter I Snowboard and also go to the gym, in the summer the activities are near limitless and its then I’m rarely indoors.

If you ask my friend “What kind of person do you think Vicky is?” The answer must be “She is kind.” Also, they might tell you “She lives for the moment.” Few years ago, I was in the high school in China. I did not pay much attention on studying. After I graduated, I have been attending college for one year. That year was the most enjoyable year in my life. Course loads were not heavy. Routine life was full of shopping, travelling and parties. I did my best to enjoy life. My parents were planning on sending me to Canada because they did not want to pamper me any more. I thought is might be wonderful to live by myself, so I did not refuse. Life goes on, I start to learn more and more about responsibility. There is nothing for me to proud. I began to earn money from last year. I realize that I have to do something for this family. Being busy day and night, I am occupied myself with working and studying. Hopefully, it is not late.

From Selina:

Realizition(title)

I was a doctor before I came to Canada, and I was always proud of my career. I was happy I could release my patients from suffering; I was satisfied that I gained respect from my patients and their relatives;I was content I did not need to study hard anymore. However, after three years being here, I've realized that it is impossible for me to be a doctor again, and I was depressed deeply because I don't know what I can do except being a doctor. Meanwhile, when I go around and involve in the society, I realized that the most important thing for me is to improve my English skills, and I have to be patient because mastering a new language requires a little bit longer. Now, I am comforted. I just tell myself do not push myself too much, set up a little goal one by one, and achieve them one after another like a snail climbing up to the summit of a mountain just needs to keep climbing without stopping. 175 words
